Every last Thursday of the month, PICS Belgium organises a one-hour virtual event on specific supply chain topics, introducing the topic and leaving room for discussion amongst participants. In the January session, GS1 Belgilux introduced the GS1 Smartbox, along with the Chairman of the GS1 Belgilux Board Wouter Schaekers (P&G).
Today, most retailers receive products from suppliers in carton boxes. They often need to unpack these cartons in plastic totes, to allow for manipulation/picking in the warehouses and for shipping.
The GS1 Smartbox, an initiative from GS1 Germany, was already tested in Germany with different stakeholders and showed its added value. The goal of GS1 Smartbox is to provide an industry standard crate for delivery to the retail stores that can be used in the warehouse solutions and for distribution to the stores.
The next step would be too upscale this initiative. If you’re interested in this promising concept, please don’t hesitate to contact us via innovation@gs1belu.org.
